Asha D is a leading singer, musician and producer of the French-speaking reggae scene, based in Montpellier.
A self-taught drummer turned pillar of the Artikal Music label, in 1992 he founded the collective that would become the Artikal Band and the Artikal Sound System. For sixteen years, until 2025, he held the drum seat for Yaniss Odua — over 380 concerts across some fifteen countries — and backed legends such as U-Roy and Pablo Moses, alongside a long list of Jamaican artists (Sister Carol, The Heptones, Natural Black, Queen Omega, Rod Taylor).
A prolific producer, in 2019 he launched riddiminstrumental.com — nearly 480 original riddims — and brought his own voice to the forefront from 2021: the EPs “The Pressure”, “Roots Meditation” and “Vivre en Paix”, then the mixtape “Serious Time” (2025). True to a rare pace — a new track every month — he gathers nearly 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and features in the editorial reggae playlists of Spotify, Deezer and Apple Music.
On 23 October 2026 comes his new album “Où va ce monde ?”: six tracks and six dubs played live by the Artikal Band. On stage, Asha D performs in sound system format, in a hybrid duo with Artikal Fab (bass, drums, Ableton station) or with the full Asha D & Artikal Band lineup. In 2026, with Dr Vegas, he founded the Reggae Sound School, a reggae-music training program.
"Où va ce monde ?"
Six tracks, six dubs. One journey. One question.
Coming soon · full album out 23 October 2026
"Où va ce monde ?" ("Where is this world heading?") unfolds as a journey in six chapters. Asha D looks at the tensions of our time without turning away — from resistance to love, then to warning — to a conclusion that leaves the question open.
Carried by the Artikal Band, the project is rooted in organic roots reggae played live (one drop, rockers, steppa), with lyrics at its core. Six tracks, six dubs: where the vocal versions set a gaze, the dubs open a more sensory, immersive space. A coherent, inhabited body of work, against the grain of today's formats.
It's not a statement. It's a path.
